You have to make your own living in Laos and these children were starting early in life.  They approached tourists dining outside a restaurant to sell jewellery.

In dry season the bamboo bridges are erected to cross the river in Luang Prabang.  In wet season they are dismantled and packed away as the flow of the river is too strong for the bamboo.  The bridges would be swept away.  There are several bamboo bridges and some have a person at one end to collect a toll to cross the bridge.
